I added an essay that I wrote in 2002 about my experience during the Khobar Tower Bombing in 1996.  I found this on my computer and scarcely remembered writing it.  As i read it, I found myself getting anxious with my heart beating like a drum. Ever since the original incident I have been sensitive to loud noises, causing me to flinch or jump with every slammed door.  I hadn’t really thought about it much, but now I think it is a form of PTSD.  Its hard for me to even write this as it feels like I am just being a baby about it.  Especially when there are soldiers coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan who have seen actual combat.  Does that make the traumatic experience that I had any less traumatic?

PTSD is a label with a lot of stigma attached to it and I’m not sure I want to have that hanging over my head.  So maybe I will just bury the memories back down inside and wait for the next door to slam.
